Preamble and Purpose

Ice fishing is a long-established activity that is participated in by thousands of Mainers each year.  It is a healthy, fun sport that can be enjoyed by everyone when practiced responsibly. The ice anglers of the State of Maine have organized a not for profit association to be known as the Maine Ice Anglers Association.

The purpose of this association is to promote, protect and work for the promotion and betterment of ice fishing for Ice Anglers in Maine.  It is the goal of the Maine Ice Anglers Association to:

* Promote clean water on all lakes and ponds.

* Encourage good sportsmanship and respect for other people’s property.

* Work with the Maine Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and others for equality and fairness of fishing laws and regulations.

* Encourage youth involvement by creating and/or supporting youth fishing programs and opportunities.

* Promote and adopt the practices outlined in the “Carry on – Carry off” policy.

* Be aware of and obey all ice-fishing laws, rules and regulations.

* Observe safe ice-fishing practices and look out for fellow ice-anglers.

* Provide ice-fishing information and education to the public.
